What's on: London's Design Museum

The Design Museum champions creative thinking and innovative designs and was established by Terence Conran in 1981. Since it opened over 30 years ago, it has staged 100 exhibitions and has welcomed five million visitors. A must-see for any art and design fanatics, there are a range of outstanding exhibitions taking place at the museum throughout spring and summer, well worth a visit! Hello My Name is Paul Smith Until June 22nd, visitors to the museum will be able to step into the world of designer Paul Smith, through this exhibition that explores and celebrates his career. The exhibition charts the rise of Paul Smith’s iconic British label and looks at everything from his humble beginnings in Nottingham to how he came to his renowned, international status today. Fashionistas, this is not one to miss. Designs of the Year Running until August 25th, Designs of the Year is now being shown for the seventh year running and showcases the very best in innovative and cutting-edge design. It displays projects from fashion to architecture, digital to graphic – even Kate Moss’s favourite app and a friendly lamp post – it’s one of the most off-the-wall exhibitions in London. Visitors can also see work by designers such as Zaha Hadid, David Chipperfield and Miuccia Prada, as well as designs by students and crowd-funded projects. If you’re into the contemporary and unconventional, this one’s for you. Time Machines: Daniel Weil and the Art of Design From May 14th to August 31st, the museum will be showcasing the work of Argentinean designer Daniel Weil who studied at the Royal College of Art 35 years ago. The exhibition will explore how the artist works, how he interprets sources and how he uses colour to create his designs. Concepts that make the mind boggle... Louis Kahn: The Power of Architecture Taking place from July 9th to October 12th, the Design Museum will be looking at the life and work of Louis Kahn, one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. It will showcase original sketches, architectural models, photographs and films to discover his unique and beautiful style. The exhibition will also feature previously unseen footage of Kahn’s son Nathaniel Kahn, director of the film ‘My Architect’. Budding architects, this has your name written all over it.
