A bucket list of things to do in London 2015

It’s coming up to Christmas and we’re thinking ahead to 2015, trying to come up with some New Year’s resolutions. But this year, instead of thinking of them as resolutions, why not turn them into a bucket list? Forget saying you’ll give up chocolate or start exercising more, make doing things your resolution instead. If you’re planning on coming to London next year, we thought of all the must-see things to do in London as a challenge. And if you haven’t planned on coming, this list might change your mind! Climb the O2 Walk over the O2 at Greenwich peninsula for a truly unique experience. Strapped into a harness, you climb up the shallow incline and bouncy trampoline-style walkway until you reach the summit, at 60m high, where you can enjoy unparalleled views over East London and the City. The ascent and descent takes about an hour and it’s do-able for all levels of fitness – but we would advise that you don’t go if are afraid of heights or if you have any knee problems! Read about when we climbed the summit, here. Glass Walkway in Tower Bridge Tower Bridge has just unveiled its most exciting development yet – the new Glass Walkway! Ever wanted to walk over the top of people, and spy from above? Well now you can! The Glass Walkway lets you watch pedestrians cross the bridge below as well as giving you stunning views over the Thames from its upper walkway, too. Westminster Cathedral Don’t get this one confused with Westminster Abbey, this Westminster Cathedral is something else. Tucked around the corner by Victoria, this stunning 19th century red brick cathedral in neo- Byzantine style, is a breath-taking feat of architecture. Step inside and you’ll see a wealth of naves, chapels and the cathedral clock – not to mention the tower which you can climb for views over central London. Selfie with a Beefeater With your free entry to the Tower of London, why not enjoy a guided tour with a beefeater while you're at it. Find out about the tales and legends of this historic fort on these amusing tours as you are taken through history from 1066 to the present day. To top it all off, don’t forget to ask for a quick selfie! Kayak on Regents Canal Want a really unique tour of London? Why not try a kayak tour along the Regents Canal. Paddle down from Primrose Hill, past London Zoo and Camden Town – and you’ll even see the giraffe house and Snowdon Aviary, too. It’s a great way to experience a part of London you wouldn’t see from the streets. Step over the two hemispheres We’ve recently partnered with the Royal Observatory Greenwich where you can visit this historic building and learn about astronomic evolution over time, as well as step over the Prime Meridian line. Bet you never thought you could go to London and have one foot in each hemisphere! Open air cinema – hot tub or in a park Come rain or shine, winter or summer, there’s always some form of cinematic screening outdoors somewhere in the city. This winter you can sit in a toasty hot tub and watch your favourite films on the top of a roof in Shoreditch, and in the summer you can bring a picnic of your favourite food and drink and sit in a park under the stars, too. Hedgerow maze at Hampton Court Palace Enjoy the world’s oldest hedgerow maze at Hampton Court Palace commissioned in 1700 by William III. A veritable brain-teaser, it’s known as a puzzle maze because of its tricky layout. Visitors can lose themselves wandering the paths of Hampton Court Palace for hours as it covers a third of an acre! Have a drink at Gordon’s Wine Bar If you’re in London while it’s still cold and are looking for somewhere cosy and snug, Gordon’s Wine Bar is the place to go. This 19th century Dickensian style wine bar is tucked away between Embankment and the Strand and its low vaulted ceilings and candle lit tables make for a romantic rest stop. Sample some of their rich wines with over 20 cheeses to choose from to mix-and-match your own cheese platter. You can’t beat some warming red and a plate of brie to unwind after a day of sightseeing. Watch a play at Shakespeare’s Globe From April through to September, Shakespeare’s Globe is staging a long season of plays throughout 2015. Starting with The Merchant of Venice, you can also see King John, Measure for Measure and Macbeth over the summer months. If you’re a fan of the Bard it’s a must to really experience this unique theatrical display.
