Celebrating the World Cup 2014 in London

Men around the country have been counting down the days until the World Cup 2014 grips the nation. Kicking off on the 12th June and running until the 13th July – that’s over a month of football mania and madness – it has finally arrived! London is under the spell of the sport and everywhere you look there are pubs and bars getting ready for their bit; adorned with St George’s flags and bunting galore. It’s a dream for out-of-towners as you can really experience the hype of British revelry during the World Cup; but if you want more of a back seat, why not get in the mood and visit London’s most famous football stadiums instead? From Wembley and the Olympic Stadium, to Arsenal and Chelsea FC there are plenty of places to get your football fix during the World Cup - without having to go to Brazil! So mix sightseeing with sporting heroes and you’ve got one perfect holiday! Well, each to their own... Wembley Stadium Probably the most famous of all the London stadiums, Wembley Stadium is definitely the largest. Boasting over 90,000 seats it took 4 years to build and you don’t even want to guess how much it cost (a staggering £790 million apparently...) Wembley’s held a wide range of events from the NFL tournaments, to sell-out pop star concerts; but most famously it’s one of the most visited sporting grounds and is the official stadium for the England Team. You may even remember it hosted the 1996 World Cup final, in which England won. Not to boast or anything... Olympic Stadium Home to the recently opened Orbit the Olympic Park is London’s newest sporting ground, having gone through a substantial makeover and facelift for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The Olympic Stadium – set to re-open in 2016 – will become the home to West Ham United, as well as host a range of events. However, don’t fret, there are scheduled events set to take place before it becomes the home to the famous names at West Ham. In the meantime it will host the Rugby World Cup 2015 and the IAAF World Athletics Championships in 2017. Did you know that the Orbit have decided to paint the monument gold should the England Team be victorious in Brazil this World Cup... Arsenal FC Stadium Every boy’s dream is to walk through the player’s tunnel and onto the pitch; so let your kids live out their dream at Arsenal FC at the Emirates Stadium in South West London. Take the stadium tour and explore the ‘behind-the-scenes’ of one of London’s most popular team’s grounds. You’ll see their locker rooms, the interview area and all the highlights of this modern football landmark. Seating over 60,000 fans it’s a sight to behold – don’t forget to pick up a token mascot on the way out! Chelsea FC José Mourinho’s legendary team, Chelsea FC, are located at the stadium at Stamford Bridge. Take part in an interactive tour and explore the museum to find out more about the team’s highs and lows and learn about the journey the players have gone through... You can’t leave before you stop at the Megastore for a special 10% off some Chelsea FC merchandise either... Everyone wants a souvenir for the football season.
