November 14, 2014 2:49 pm

If you’re coming to London and are thinking about how you’re going to get around, we’ve made it even easier for you! We’ve just launched a new 10 Day London Pass with Oyster Card travel to take care of all your transport needs.

An extension of our London Pass with Travel packages, our new London Pass with Oyster Card option is a great package for those who are staying in the capital for a bit longer. Your Oyster Card will be credited with £50 of pre-paid credit, if purchased on our website, so you can start using it from the moment you pick up your passes. You can even use it to come in from Heathrow (all terminals) or City Airport if you’ve had your passes sent out to you before you travel.

How does the Oyster Card work?

London’s unique Oyster Card is an electronic travelcard which works with a touch and scan system and is a great way of getting around London. The Oyster Card is ‘topped up’ with credit and the credit will be debited after each journey, so all you need to do is touch in and out of the yellow circular readers at the ticket barriers to make sure you’re charged the correct fare.

Once your credit has run out, the card will not validate any further journeys until you add on more credit. Normally a ‘Seek Assistance’ message will appear on the ticket barrier when you try and touch in, which is an indication you have too little credit to complete a whole journey.

To check how much credit you have remaining, go to one of the ticket machines in the tube station and place your Oyster Card on the yellow card reader. Your remaining balance will appear on the screen as well as options to top up, if need be.

Where can I use the Oyster Card?

The Oyster Card can be used, like the Travelcard, on any public transport network in London, including the tubes, DLRs, trains and buses. Simply tap on the yellow oyster card reader to validate your journey and deduct the correct fare.

The Oyster Card is valid to use between any of London’s 9 zones and even out to Heathrow Airport and London City Airport.

Who can use the Oyster Card?

The Oyster Card can be used by everyone! But children under 11 can travel without an Oyster Card as long as they are accompanied by an adult holding an Oyster Card or valid Travelcard themselves. Once you have an Oyster Card, you have it for life, so it’s a great investment for if you are planning on returning to London in the future.

How do you activate the Oyster Card?

The Oyster Card doesn’t need to be ‘activated’ with a start date like a Travelcard, for example; it’s simply ‘activated’ as soon as there is credit loaded on it. There is also no limit as to when you have to use the Oyster Card by, either, as there is no expiry date for the Oyster Card or the credit on the card.

So it’s simple, once your Oyster Card has been pre-loaded with credit, you can use it whenever you like until the credit runs out.
