Part 2: Top 10 recommendations by local Londoners

As it’s often hard to know where the best things to do in London are, we want to help you find out where to go to find the ‘off the beaten track’ that’s not written about in your guidebook. You know all about the Tower of London and Wesminster Abbey, but London's got so much more to give! Second in the series, we’re bringing you another 10 top recommendations by local Londoners to make your experience of our wonderful city even better. From London’s best brunches to coffees in a public toilet (yes, really) read on to find out more about some of the best things to do in London: 1. Brunch in London is becoming the new ‘big thing’ so make sure you check out Smiths of Smithsfield in Farringdon where they do a brunch that can’t be beaten – think macaroni and bloody marys... We advise you come hungry! 2. If you want a truly unusual museum, head down to Greenwich to the Fan Museum – the only museum in the world dedicated to fans. Be careful, it might inspire a collecting habit you never knew you had... Greenwich is a great place for a day out too, if you stay to explore the area. 3. Head down to Canary Wharf to see the spectacular feat of electrical engineering; the Traffic Light Tree. At eight metres tall and with 75 sets of lights, when it's all light up at night it looks something like a mechanical Christmas tree. 4. While you’re in the SE area, visit the Lighthouse at Trinity Buoy Wharf – London’s only lighthouse that overlooks the O2. It also features an exhibition with the Alundatime tidal Longplayer and you can check out the container flats too - some of London's smallest rented accomodation. 5. Just outside London, the Crooked House of Windsor is Berkshire’s most unique café and probably England's most 'wonky'. Our version of the leaning tower of Pisa, kind of, make sure you stop off for a cup of tea or bite to eat when you’re in the area - if nothing else, just for the photo opportunity! 6. If you dare, Hampstead Heath’s swimming baths are open all year round if you fancy a mid-winter plunge. Make sure you’re a good swimmer as there’s no shallow end... Bring a thermos of hot chocolate to warm up with afterwards and plenty of towels. 7. Did you think cable cars were just for the Alps? Think again. You can get one of the Emirates Air Line cables across from Greenwich Peninsula to Royal Docks. There and back in less than £7 – it's so worth it for the experience. 8. The Attendant is one of London’s quirkier eating establishments. An old Victorian public toilet, it puts on a delicious spread of pastries with warming roasted coffee in the morning, it's the perfect place for an unusual breakfast (don’t worry, it’s been cleaned!) 9. Climb on top of one of London’s largest event venues and cultural landmarks – the O2. Experience climbing to a summit of 60m – and don’t forget the camera as the views are great, too. 10. If you want a unique memorabilia to take home, visit the London Brass Rubbing Centre and get involved in the medieval history and tradition of brass making.
