Poppy display at the Tower of London to mark WWI centenary

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of WWI on the 4th August, the Tower of London has unveiled its symbolic poppy display to commemorate the British soldiers who lost their lives in the war. Created from thousands of hand-crafted ceramic poppies, the dramatic installation runs right around the tower, flowing into the old moat. The display, aptly named "Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red", will be completed on the 11th November, the date that commemorates the ceasefire in 1918. There will be a total of 888,246 poppies planted to represent each of the British soldiers who died in the conflict. The display will be open to the public from the 5th August.
